Last week I discussed how I self-reflect every year on the anniversary of my dad’s death. This week, I’m giving you a glimpse into one of many conversations my sister and I shared just this past weekend. It might sound like this is an everyday sister type of conversation, but the thing is...we didn’t know each other for over 20 years and this is only the second time we’ve seen each other in 31 years. We were both raised to think that we shouldn’t know each other, but even as a child I fought that and started looking for my sister the moment the internet became public. When I found her, I sent her an email and I’m lucky to say that the rest is history.
We left this “interview” pretty free flowing, but you’ll quickly hear how similar we are and how we also have the same goals in life. Most importantly, you’ll understand how we both haven’t let our pasts or presents determine our futures. We did!
This episode is dedicated to my two kids and my stepkids. May you always be in each others’ lives and remember that you share a bond that is very special and something you should cherish. I love you all!

- Discovering Who We Want To Be
- Deciding Your Own Future
Finding Your Sister After 20 Years
Finding my sister online was difficult but it was a task I wanted to tackle. I found her in an article with a picture of what looked just like me, but with bigger hair. I immediately reached out to her and she replied. It was from that moment on that we’ve stayed in communication, have visited each other and met our brother-in-laws. We were raised that we shouldn’t like each other because we were products of different marriages, but you’ll hear how we both wondered about the other for decades.
Discovering Who We Want To Be
Annette asks me some great questions, such as who I want to strive to be and we both agree that although we think we are good at being many things, we want to be better, if not the best in all of the titles we hold. We want to both be good people, great wives, great sisters and much more. It’s a journey to get there and just like all of you, we are working on finding out how to become great at all of these things.
Deciding Your Own Future
Whether you think so or not, your future is yours to decide. I made the decision that I wanted to get to know my sister, regardless of what anyone said or liked. She made the same decision and together we have discovered that we have A LOT in common. We’ve paved our own paths in life and they’ve brought us to this point where we love the lives we live and it’s now better off because we have each other.
Whether you’re looking for a family member or trying to make a decision, but keep hearing opposition, do what’s best for YOU. You decide your future.
