Let’s start focusing on serving instead of impressing!

What we’re talking about

  • Fearlessly Chasing Your Dreams
  • Getting Past Imposter Syndrome
  • Content Strategy & The Importance of Being Yourself

Fearlessly Chasing Your Dreams

Madison’s life was on the path to suburbia with her middle-school sweetheart and a corporate career in communications.  That all quickly changed when in the span of less than two years she totaled her car, her father-in-law passed away from cancer, her house was flooded by hurricane Harvey, her mother-in-law got cancer and her parents got a divorce. Suddenly, she felt like she was drowning and needed to figure out who she was as a person. In her corporate job, she discovered that she enjoyed social media, so she took a semester off of school and created The Fearless Chase podcast. Listening to how others chased their dreams, she interviewed Micala Quinn and decided to start offering virtual assistant services. Ultimately, Madison was able to take her side hustle and go full-time and realize her sweet spot was in content strategy. She pivoted and decided to hone in on that particular skill, along with launching events.

Getting Past Imposter Syndrome

Imposter syndrome can creep in with thoughts of “What if people figure out if I don’t know what I’m doing?”. Madison was insecure with how young she was and questioned whether anyone would listen to what a 24 year old had to say. As a teen, she was part of a Christian group of kids who were leaders in training. In that group she was always reminded that she was in training, no matter what position she was in and that has stuck with her throughout the years. Madison says that if you want to grow, you have to allow yourself to be a beginner and be in training. Let the world know that you are learning along the way and see how that humanizes you in the eyes of others, ultimately making you more trustworthy.

Content Strategy & The Importance of Being Yourself

Focusing on serving instead of impressing is what is going to take your content to the next level. The biggest hurdle is narrowing down who you are talking to and most people skip this step. You can’t serve them well if you don’t know who you’re serving. Combine who you’re talking to with what you offer and what your brand consists of. Take that combination to create 3-5 topics that you can speak on a regular basis.

Madison suggests you look at what people are telling you and your competitors and reply in their own lingo. So often we want to use our industry lingo, but that doesn’t resonate with those who want and need our services. If it did, then they wouldn’t be hiring you! Explain it in their terms and they’ll want to work with you because they understand you.

Lastly, be yourself. Talk and create content as if you were talking to your best friend. Chances are that your dream client is likely a version of yourself...past, present or future.

Is your content serving your audience?
